It is a cliché universally acknowledged that a chap in want of a finished doctoral dissertation must be involved in a podcast. I’ve accepted that “sexy 2020s podcast” will be the hot ironic-throwback Halloween costume of 2054 – But as long as there’s no certainty that we’ll make it that far anyway, why not just lean into the stereotype and join me and my good co-host Kathryn as we do the only thing we’ve been trained to do: read a lot and natter endlessly about good books! You can find us and all of our episodes at The KrickCast.
The Krickcast is best described as a nostalgic re-read podcast: we pick up the books that loomed large on our bookshelves while we were growing up and see how they sit with us now. As a result, our content tends to focus more on young adult lit of various kinds, but we’ll discuss any kind of book that just happens to strike our interest. We group our episodes into mini-seasons on the same book, series, or theme. If you’re looking for a good place to start, try our episodes on Richard Adams’ Watership Down, Brian Jacques’ Redwall series, Ray Bradbury’s Something Wicked This Way Comes, or children’s detective fiction.
The Krickcast umbrella is also home to Oh, the Humanities!, a new series of interviews with people living, working, and (mostly) surviving in non-STEM fields. The current pandemic has OtH! on hold for now, but we’re hoping to have our first episodes up soon. Soonish. Eventually.
